1. About these terms
These terms and conditions govern all bookings, ticket purchases, and venue hire agreements made with Steam Wine Bar, operated by Steam Wine Bar Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales with its venue address at 1 St George's Lane, London, EC3R 8DJ.
By making a booking, purchasing a ticket, or entering into a venue hire agreement with us, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to these terms.
2. Bookings and reservations
2.1 Table bookings
Table reservations are held for 15 minutes beyond the booked time. If you have not arrived or contacted us within that window, we reserve the right to release the table.
For bookings of eight guests or more, we may request a deposit or pre-authorised card at the time of booking. This will be released after your visit, unless cover charges or cancellation terms apply.
2.2 Event tickets
All event tickets are non-transferable and sold subject to availability. The name given at booking must match the guest attending; ID may be requested on entry for events where alcohol is served as part of the package.
Speaker line-ups, menus, and event formats are correct at the time of booking but may be subject to change. Where a headline speaker is unable to attend due to circumstances beyond our control, we will substitute a comparable speaker or offer a full refund at our discretion.
2.3 Private hire and corporate events
Private hire agreements are formalised in a separate booking contract that sets out the specific terms for your event, including minimum spend, guest numbers, staffing, and event timings. The booking contract prevails over these general terms where they conflict.
A non-refundable deposit is required to secure private hire dates. Full pre-payment or a credit card guarantee is typically required 7 days before the event.
3. Cancellations and refunds
3.1 By you (the guest)
- Table bookings up to 8 guests: free cancellation up to 24 hours before the booking.
- Table bookings of 9 or more guests: free cancellation up to 72 hours before. Later cancellations may forfeit the deposit or incur a cover charge equal to the agreed minimum spend.
- Speaker lunch and ticketed event bookings: tickets are non-refundable within 14 days of the event, but may be transferred to another named guest with our prior agreement up to 48 hours before.
- Private hire events: cancellation terms are set out in your booking contract. Typically, deposits are non-refundable, with further sliding charges for cancellations inside 28, 14, and 7 days.
3.2 By us (Steam Wine Bar)
If we cancel your booking or an event for any reason, we will offer you the choice of rescheduling, crediting your account, or receiving a full refund. Where an event is rescheduled, your existing booking will carry over unless you request a refund.
4. Your responsibilities
When you attend the venue or book with us, you agree to:
- Arrive at the time booked, and inform us promptly if you will be late or unable to attend
- Inform us of any allergies, dietary requirements, or accessibility needs at the time of booking, so we can accommodate them properly
- Behave courteously to our team and to other guests. We reserve the right to refuse entry or ask guests to leave if their behaviour is disruptive, threatening, or puts others at risk
- Comply with UK licensing laws. We operate under a strict Challenge 25 policy and will ask for photo ID where age is in doubt
- Be responsible for any damage caused to the venue, its fittings, or equipment by you or your guests
5. Liability
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for any other liability that cannot be excluded under English law.
Subject to the above, our total liability to you in connection with any booking is limited to the value of the booking itself. We are not liable for any indirect or consequential losses, including loss of profit, loss of opportunity, or loss of data.
We are not responsible for personal belongings left in the venue. Cloakroom items are left at your own risk.
6. Force majeure
We are not liable for failure or delay in performing our obligations where caused by events outside our reasonable control. This includes, without limitation, fire, flood, severe weather, transport disruption, civil unrest, acts of government, public health emergencies, or the unexpected unavailability of utilities or third-party services.
Where a force majeure event prevents an event from going ahead, we will work with you to reschedule or offer a fair refund, in line with section 3.2.
7. Intellectual property
All content on our website, including text, images, video, the Steam Wine Bar name, and our logo, is the property of Steam Wine Bar Ltd or our licensors and is protected by UK copyright and trademark law. You may not reproduce, redistribute, or exploit any of it without our written permission.
Photographs taken inside the venue by guests are for personal use only. Commercial photography or filming requires prior written consent.
8. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute will be resolved by the courts of England and Wales, though nothing stops a consumer from bringing proceedings in their home jurisdiction where that right exists.
9. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top of this page reflects the most recent version. Changes will not apply retrospectively to bookings already confirmed.
