The Profile
The rugby career behind the headlines.
Danny Care has spent more than sixteen years as a professional scrum half at Harlequins, which is a staggering club loyalty record in the professional rugby era. Eighty five England caps, multiple Six Nations campaigns, and a Premiership winners medal in 2021 when Harlequins produced one of the most remarkable late-season comebacks in the history of the competition.
His style of play is about pace. A quick tap penalty from Care, carried over from his junior years in rugby league, has been one of the defining attacking moves of the Harlequins side for a decade and a half. He is a scrum half who values the tempo of the game above every other consideration, which in modern rugby makes him an unusual and popular player to watch.
Post-playing, he is moving steadily into broadcasting and speaking, and his events have the same speed and energy as his rugby. Quick tempo, no apology, plenty of laughs.
“Tap and go is not a trick. It is a commitment. You either trust the instinct or you do not. I trust the instinct.”
