The Profile
The golf career behind the headlines.
Billy Foster has been a professional caddy for some of the most successful golfers of the modern era including Seve Ballesteros, Darren Clarke, Sergio Garcia, Lee Westwood, and most recently Matt Fitzpatrick. He won the 2022 US Open with Fitzpatrick, which was his first major championship as a caddy after decades on the bag at the top level of world golf.
The caddy's role in professional golf is frequently underestimated. A good caddy reads lines, manages the emotional temperature of their player, keeps the pace on track, and makes strategic decisions under pressure that can be the difference between a major win and a missed cut. Foster is considered by other caddies and tour players to be among the very best in the profession at all of those things.
His speaker events are some of the most unusual in the golf ecosystem because he offers a perspective on major championships that no player can give. The view from three feet to the side of the ball, the conversations nobody else hears, the reads you made and wish you hadn't. It is a different kind of golf storytelling.
“The player hits the shot. The caddy lives with it for the next forty five seconds until the next one happens. That is the job, right there, in one sentence.”
