The afternoon
A first Friday residency for the people who actually listen.
The Friday blues night at Steam is a different kind of evening. No ticket, no booking fee, no set menu to commit to a month in advance. Just a working blues band on the corner of the bar, a proper wine list and a small plates menu for anyone who wants to settle in, and a room that quietly fills up from six thirty onwards.
The music is the real point. We programme bands from the London blues circuit, which is a scene that most of the City does not know exists. People who have been playing for thirty years. People whose CVs include sessions for artists you have heard of and tours with artists you should have. The kind of musicians who make a Friday evening feel like it is actually about the music instead of just the background.
Tom's connections from his own music industry past help book the bands, which is why the quality on a first Friday is higher than you would expect for a free-entry night in EC3. This is not a pub covers act. This is a proper small room blues gig with a wine list.
